Breathworks Introductory Two-day Course in Mindfulness-based Approaches PDF Print

This two day non-residential course introduces you to the use of mindfulness-based approaches to pain and illness. It is also an opportunity to experience the richness that mindfulness can bring to your own life as well as others.

This two day event also forms Module One of the Breathworks Mindfulness Teacher Trainer Level One (TT1)

Who is the course for?
  • Those wishing to be introduced to or extend their understanding of mindfulness-based approaches in health care
  • Health professionals interested in the use of these approaches with their own client groups
  • Those exploring whether to enter an accredited mindfulness training programme
  • No previous experience of mindfulness or meditation is necessary for these two days

Course Content

  • The theory of mindfulness: what it is; definitions; historical context; applications in health care; the Breathworks approach
  • The practice of mindfulness: body scan meditation; mindfulness of breathing; three minute breathing space; mindful movement
  • Research outcomes of the Breathworks programme - qualitative and quantitative
  • How to establish a personal mindfulness practice of your own
  • How to begin to introduce mindfulness into your work with patients*

Course Outcomes

  • Participants will have an understanding of the benefits of mindfulness-based approaches as health care interventions and will have the tools to establish their own meditation practice
  • They will be able to discuss the benefits of these approaches with clients as well as use some techniques such as the three minute breathing space and body scan meditation CD

Your own Practice

If you wish to use more extensive mindfulness approaches effectively in your work, you will first need to develop a regular personal practice. Our Teacher Training Level One (TT1) is recommended as it provides the relevant training and support.
