for anyone suffering from pain, illness or stress I'm particularly excited by our new online Mindfulness for Health course, which teaches short daily mindfulness practices that can be done at home or at work. The principles taught can help relieve suffering for a wide range of conditions such as physical pain, cancer, stress, anxiety and fatigue. I know I would have loved to have access to something like this 25 years ago when I was a young woman struggling to come to terms with pain and disability and finding it very lonely and isolating. This desire to reach out to people who are suffering is one of the great motivations behind developing this ‘mindfulness for health' course for people living with chronic health conditions of any kind. Vidyamala Burch This 8 - 12 week course of ten-minute sessions twice a day is aimed at anyone living with chronic pain, long-term illness or the sort of stress that reduces the capacity to live life fully. Perhaps you are housebound, in hospital, or simply not able to get to a trainer-led course; if so this Mindfulness for Health course is a great option for you. Click here to register on the course. The course teaches skills and approaches to help to manage pain or difficulty. Mindfulness practice helps us to clearly perceive thoughts, physical sensations, emotions and events at the moment they occur without reacting in an automatic or habitual way. It allows us to make choices on how we respond to things and have a rich and fulfilling life, even when experiencing difficult circumstances. The programme also teaches invaluable tools for life such as learning to move with mindfulness and to pace activities so that "boom and bust" can be avoided and more can be achieved over time. The course has been designed by Vidyamala Burch, based on her 25 years experience of managing severe chronic pain with mindfulness. The course is a co-production between Breathworks CIC and the Mindfulness Centre in Sweden. |
