Applying Mindfulness to Pain and Illness - the Breathworks Approach
Three day course for MBSR, MBCT and other mindfulness teachers, introducing methods and approaches for helping people living with pain and/or illness.
Learning Objectives
Over the three days of the workshop you will be introduced to:
- Breathworks key ideas: Primary and Secondary Suffering, Blocking and Drowning, the Five Step Process, and all the teaching and methodology that goes with those ideas
- Breathworks practice of Mindfulness in Daily Life: a way of teaching pacing in life that helps to avoid flare-ups of pain or other conditions
- The Breathworks Body Scan and Mindfulness of Breathing practices: taught to particularly suit those living with pain and illness, based on Vidyamala's experience of using mindfulness for her pain.
- The Kindly Awareness meditation practice: a compassion meditation developed to suit those with painful conditions
- The Breathworks system of Mindful Movement
- Guidance in how to teach meditation specifically for people with pain and/or illness
- Using the breath to help soften reactions to pain and to reduce the tension and stress that often accompanies it
There will be presentation and discussion of Breathworks trainers' experience of working with this particular client group. Qualitative and quantitative data of programme benefits will be available.
