The Breathworks Foundation

Making mindfulness accessible

We are a registered charity, with a mission is to make mindfulness accessible to everyone. Being an organisation that gives back has been important to us from the very beginning. Our Founder Vidyamala was living on benefits for many years before she was able to secure funding through a disability grant to start Breathworks. We know that many who benefit the most from our services are least able to afford it, so we are committed to help those in need through bursaries, scholarships, free resources and other funding initiatives.

Prof. Stephen Joseph Phd, University of Nottingham, has stated in an article for Psychology Today, that 'taking on new challenges is an important part of growing and developing as a person, the more we test our limits and capabilities, the more we learn about ourselves'.

The downside to taking on a new challenge is the ever present possibility of failure. The question becomes, not how to lead a life in which we never feel the fear of failure but rather how do we move forward despite our fears.

Are we able to transform our fear into an enthusiasm to engage with a new challenge, learn from it and lead an authentic life?

The Breathworks Foundation enables access to mindfulness courses and training, helping to support those who are challenging themselves to transform their lives. We currently have five brave and enthusiastic NightRiders talking on an exciting new endurance challenge, cycling 50kms around the streets of Liverpool. Their purpose is to raise funds and awareness of The Breathworks Foundation and our work, enabling more and more individuals to access mindfulness and helping to grow our empathic community.

Here’s what three of our cyclists are most looking forward to in their challenge:

Dave: "Riding downhill and being part of a team. The atmosphere will be great!"

Sona, one of Breathworks Founders: "A fun ride with friends and lots of other enthusiasts. I hope there will be lots of laughs and look forward to seeing dawn begin at breakfast time!"

Karen, who works at Breathworks: "I will enjoy the camaraderie that comes from doing challenging things with others and helping each other keep going.  And apparently we’re going to get a big brekkie at about 3.30am…I really love food and eating and have recently been training in naturopathic nutrition so  I’m really interested in figuring out how to manage this around nutrition / sleep, so we can enjoy this challenge and complete it feeling well. Also looking forward to hitting my target of £500."
