About the retreat

With the growing popularity of mindfulness and compassion many of us are getting a taste of meditation and a wish to practise more intensively, but there are limited opportunities to take our meditation practice deeper in the ideal conditions that a retreat can provide.

This week-long meditation retreat is aimed to fulfil that need whether your mindfulness training has been in Breathworks, MBSR, MBCT or any other mindfulness-based approach.

It will include the characteristic Breathworks approach of both mindfulness and compassion practices held within an atmosphere of warmth and kindliness.  Kindness practices will be explicitly explored based on loving kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy & equanimity.

This retreat will be held mostly in silence, apart from teaching sessions to help you take your meditation deeper and opportunities for enquiry. Many of us long for periods to quietly deepen the mindfulness and compassion practices we have learned. There will also be led mindful movement sessions.

The retreat includes opportunities to talk to one of the team about your meditation practice if you wish.

Please note

We are currently monitoring all government guidelines with regards coronavirus and if we need to cancel an event we will offer a full refund or a place on an alternative course (whichever you prefer). 

A typical day's programme is as follows:

7.00am - rise (6.30am after third day) followed by meditation

9.00am - breakfast

10:30am - teaching and meditation

12:15pm - mindful movement

1:00pm - lunch followed by free time to rest and take walks in the countryside

4:00pm - meditation reviews either individually or in groups

5:00pm - meditation

6:00pm - supper

7:45pm - meditation

Suitable for 

Mindfulness teachers, trainers, supervisors and 8-week mindfulness course graduates who have a regular mindfulness practice of at least one year.

This retreat meets the residential retreat CPD requirement for Breathworks Accredited Teachers and other Mindfulness teachers.


Vidyamala Burch and Sona Fricker; two of the  founders of Breathworks . They have both been meditating for decades and love teaching and practising meditation with others. 


We are hiring Vajrasana for the week, a Buddhist retreat centre in the beautiful Suffolk countryside. The retreat will be entirely secular.


Please note that Vajrasana has heavy fire doors which affects access for people with mobility issues. We apologise for this and are happy to discuss your access needs with you to look at the most appropriate support we can offer.


Individual Concession
£795 £695


There are a limited number of concessionary places, which are available to people on a low income. As a guide, we suggest this applies to people with an income of less than £17,000 per year, or less than £20,000 if you live in London. If your annual income is higher than this and would like to discuss your eligibility for a concessionary place for other reasons, please contact us.

If you are a student member of the Breathworks Training Programme or an accredited Breathworks Mindfulness teacher and are interested in attending this retreat, but wouldn't be able to do so because of financial hardship, please contact the office to discuss discount or payment options.
