Kindness and compassion training is really beneficial and most people engage with it readily. However, when I was introduced to kindness practices on a Breathworks course, I found them difficult and uncomfortable and didn’t reap their benefits.

When teaching Breathworks courses, I have regularly come across others with similar experiences. I am comfortable with them now, and they are my go-to practices whenever I am struggling. This happened over time and with gentle practice on and off my cushion.

What I’ve learned from my experience, and from researching kindness and compassion training for my MSc is that the teacher and the way they teach makes a huge difference to whether and how course participants get those benefits.

This CPD session will help Breathworks teachers develop practical approaches for teaching kindness and compassion that will support all course participants, particularly those who experience blocks and barriers to kindness and compassion.

The session will build on knowledge from compassion literature and research, including my own research into participants’ experiences of kindness and compassion training on a Breathworks Mindfulness for Stress course. It will also draw on the experience and wisdom of the CPD group.
