We are excited that one of our few in-person retreats this year will be a nature retreat in leafy Heaton Park in Manchester with Associate Teacher Lilasuri Morris.

Nature offers us many opportunities to be mindful and present. There is an abundance of beauty to be found and our natural curiosity is heightened by its sights, sounds and smells. Nature can help us to connect to something bigger than ourselves which in turn can lead to a feeling of wonder about life and its gifts.

Experienced teacher Lilasuri is deeply inspired by nature and the ways in which becoming intimate with our external landscape can help us better understand our internal landscape.

This retreat will be an exploration of the ways that mindfulness can be deepened through connecting with nature in the beautiful Beech woodland of one of the north of England’s biggest parks.

The day will consist of guided meditations around a campfire, mindful activities individually and in small groups as well as many opportunities to connect more deeply through the senses and share experiences with others in a safe space.

Preparation

Please dress for the weather and for your comfort. There will be simple shelter should it rain but please note the event will be cancelled if there are high winds, a storm or torrential rain which makes being in the woodlands unsafe.

You may wish to come prepared with a waterproof jacket, sturdy shoes and clothes that you wouldn't mind getting a little dirty (in case of muddiness). Consider wearing layers which you can easily put on and take off to adjust to the temperature, and of course don’t forget to bring sun-screen if it looks like it will be a sunny day.

Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided, however you will need to bring your own packed lunch and water.

Your Retreat Leader

Lilasuri Morris is the founder of Wild Awake Mindfulness where she teaches individuals, groups and workplaces with a unique approach that includes mindful compassion and stress management, as well as weaving in her love of nature to support learning and understanding.

With over a decade of mindfulness experience, she is a Breathworks Associate Teacher, trained in Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction, a Mindfulness Coordinator for the mental health charity Mind, a member of the British Association of Mindfulness-Based Approaches.

Lilasuri has worked in the environmental sector since 2008 engaging people in activities to enhance well-being and promote positive attitudes to conservation of the natural environment. Around the same time she came across mindfulness by attending a course at the Manchester Buddhist Centre, since then she has committed to a Buddhist path and was ordained in 2021.

Breathworks is a charitable organisation with a mission to make the benefits of mindfulness accessible to everyone. To help remove barriers for people in financial hardship, we offer a limited number of concessionary and bursary places on events and courses. We operate our booking system on the basis of self-assessment and trust. Please have a careful read of our eligibility guide below, and contact us if you have any further questions.

Concessionary Rate: applies to individuals with an income of less than £18,500 a year (or less than £24,000 if you live in London). 

Bursary Rate: a limited number of bursary places are reserved for individuals with significant financial barriers that limits them from affording the Concessionary Rate.
