OK it might have been a bit of a stretch to cycle 50 kms in the middle of the night as an old guy who recently turned 70. But as co-founder of Breathworks I'm really passionate about raising funds for our charitable wing - The Breathworks Foundation. The charity was established in recognition of the fact that it is often the very people who most need mindfulness who can least afford it. So we have a bursary and scholarship fund to ensure that everyone, regardless of the ability to pay, can access the life-changing skills of mindfulness and compassion.

It also helped that I did the Nightrider on an electric bike that my friends and family bought me for my birthday - though in the end I only used pedal power! I feel so grateful to be given such a wonderful present and I wanted to express that gratitude by doing something for others. And I also did the ride for Vidyamala, my partner and co-founder of Breathworks. I know she'd absolutely love to do a challenge like this if she could, but her spinal injuries make it impossible.

I love a challenge - the last time I cycled long distance was when I cycled over the Alps 20 years ago. It will be amazing to be cycling through the streets of Liverpool with thousands of others all raising funds for charity.
