You Are Not Your Pain - May 22-25, 2015 New York

Through a partnership with the Garrison Institute, we will be offering a three day event for professional MBSR and MBCT teachers.

Over the three days of this course, MBSR/MBCT teachers will be introduced to:

Breathworks key ideas, teaching and methodology for:

  • Primary and Secondary Suffering
  • Blocking and Drowning
  • Five Step Process
  • Breathworks practice of Mindfulness in Daily Life: a pacing method that helps people avoid flare-ups of pain or other health conditions
  • The Breathworks Body Scan and Breathing Anchor practices: taught to particularly suit those living with pain and illness, based on Vidyamala's experience of using mindfulness for her own chronic pains
  • Compassionate Acceptance, Treasure of Pleasure, Open Heart and Connection meditation practices: compassion meditations developed to suit those with chronic and painful conditions
  • Breathworks System of Mindful Movement
  • Guidance in how to teach meditation specifically for people with pain or illness
  • Using the breath to help soften reactions to pain and to reduce the tension and stress that often accompanies it.

In addition, there will be presentations of:

  • Breathworks trainers' experience of working with this particular client group
  • Qualitative and quantitative data of Breathworks program benefits

On completion:

This retreat is suitable for: MBSR and MBCT Teachers, per the requirements below.

MBSR Teacher Requirements:

  • An established daily meditation practice
  • On-going participation in annual residential teacher-led mindfulness meditation retreats
  • Completed both the Practicum and Teacher Development Intensive with the UMass Center for Mindfulness**
  • Facilitated at least 3 x 8-week MBSR groups

** On a case by case basis, teachers with significant experience that have not yet completed the TDI will be considered, as well as people who have trained with other institutions than the CFM. Please specify all teacher training and experience in your application.

MBCT Teacher Requirements:

  • An established daily meditation practice
  • On-going participation in annual residential teacher-led mindfulness meditation retreats
  • Completed MBCT teacher training with a recognized institution*
  • Facilitated at least 3 x 8-week MBCT groups and/or regularly use MBCT in their work with individual clients

* Please specify teacher training in your application.

Tuition: $480

The tuition fee includes a set of three guided mindfulness meditation CDs and a handbook. It does not include room and board at Garrison which ranges from $155 to $110/night depending on the type of room you choose (single/double/triple/dorm), and if you elect to do a daily 1 hour house job or not during your stay.

A limited number of Breathworks scholarships will be available on the basis of financial hardship. Please specify your situation in your application form.
