Training Diaries

You will be required to keep reflective diaries at various points of your Breathworks training - see below for more details. Please note that for all training diaries, there are additional documents to help you, available here:

You will also go through what is expected in reflective diaries during your online Orientation Workshop. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact your personal mentor.

Preparation for Introductory Training Event (TTi)

Prior to attending TTi you must:

  • attend an online Orientation Workshop
  • read Mindfulness for Health by Vidyamala Burch and Danny Penman and the Little Mindfulness Workbook by Gary Hennessey
  • watch a video of Vidyamala telling her life story and how she came to found Breathworks
  • read or watch other preparatory materials – we will email documents and links to you when you begin your training with us
  • complete and review with your personal mentor meditation diaries for the Mindfulness for Health meditations (see below for more information)

Mindfulness for Health Meditation Diaries

Please complete diaries for all six meditations in Mindfulness for Health (Body Scan, Breathing Anchor, Compassionate Acceptance, Treasure of Pleasure, Open Heart, Connection). We ask that you spend 3-4 consecutive days on each practice, meditating 2x each day, for a total of 18-24 days. Please use the CD in the back of Mindfulness for Health.

You can also download some extra versions of the Body Scan and Breathing Anchor meditations from our shop. These will just give you a little more variety in your practice. There will also be some longer compilation meditations posted soon that you can practice if you'd like, e.g. Body Scan into Compassionate Acceptance. These are optional and not essential.

Please submit diaries to your personal mentor directly no later than four weeks before the start of your TTi event. They will then review your diaries and arrange a time for you to discuss them together, before your TTi training event.

Preparation for Advanced Training Event (TTa)

Prior to attending TTa you must:

  • complete Introductory Training (TTi) or Breathworks for MBSR/MBCT teachers
  • watch teaching videos for your chosen course – we will email you links
  • complete required reading:

  2. Living Well with Pain and Illness,by Vidyamala Burch
  3. The Mindful Way Through Depression: Freeing Yourself from Chronic Unhappiness, by Segal, Teasdale, Williams & Kabat Zinn
  4. The Mindful Path to Self Compassion: freeing yourself from Destructive Thoughts and Emotions by Christopher K, Germer
  • watch or listen to recommended talks online – we will email you  links
  • read, listen to, and view the booklet, CDs and DVD in the Mindful Movement Pack (if you have not already done so for your Mindful Movement weekend)
  • submit and review diaries with your personal mentor (see below for more information)
  • familiarise yourself, through practice, with the main meditations in the Little Mindfulness Workbook (Body Scan; Mindfulness of Breathing; Working with Thoughts/Charged Thoughts; Being with Unwanted Experience; Kindness to Self – using phrases, imagery and breath; Kindness to Someone You Like/Kindness towards Everyone). You can use the CDs for the Stress course, or access the meditations on Soundcloud. Please reflect informally with your Personal Mentor on what you have learned from doing these meditations, for instance any difference of emphasis from the Health course meditations.

TTa training diaries

Please complete Mindfulness in Daily Life Diaries, which begin in week three of the MfH course, Chapter 6 in the book. You'll find worksheets in the workbook given to you on TTi. Please keep your pacing diary for a week and complete the analysis and setting of baselines.

Please submit your diaries to your personal mentor directly no later than four weeks before the start of your TTa event. They will then review your diaries and arrange a time for you to discuss them together, before your TTa training event. 

Preparation for Mindful Movement Weekend

Prior to attending your Mindful Movements weekend, you must:

  • read, listen to, and view the booklet, CDs and DVD in the Mindful Movement Pack (if you have not already done so for TTa)
  • complete and review with your personal mentor meditation diaries for the Breathworks Mindful Movements.

Mindful Movement Diaries

Please complete diaries for Mindful Movement for two weeks using the movements introduced on your first training event, the Mindful Movement weekend, and the pack.

Please submit diaries to your personal mentor directly no later than four weeks before the start of your Mindful Movement event. They will then review your diaries and arrange a time for you to discuss them together, before your Mindful Movement training event.
