The Breathworks Foundation

Making mindfulness accessible

We are a registered charity, with a mission is to make mindfulness accessible to everyone. Being an organisation that gives back has been important to us from the very beginning. Our Founder Vidyamala was living on benefits for many years before she was able to secure funding through a disability grant to start Breathworks. We know that many who benefit the most from our services are least able to afford it, so we are committed to help those in need through bursaries, scholarships, free resources and other funding initiatives.

Support us today.

We all deserve an equal opportunity to access the resources and support that enable us to live happier, healthier lives. That’s why we launched the Community of Practice, our free online mindfulness platform designed to help you maintain your meditation practice.

Running our Community of Practice costs our charity £30,000 each year. Together with Breathworks funding, your generous donations have helped our platform to stay free for over three years. However, in these financially challenging times, it’s clear that we can no longer afford to run this platform without a reliable and stable income.

Like other small charities who are feeling the pinch, we’ve had to adapt to keep afloat. We’ve carefully considered a variety of funding models for our Community of Practice, including charging a membership fee or cutting back on what we offer. In our hearts, neither felt right; the world needs mindfulness more than ever, and we don’t want to exclude those who need the support most, nor do we wish to take away the events and resources that keep our community so vibrant.

Our members’ generosity has never failed to strike us. That’s why we decided on launching this Community Patrons programme, where members can choose to become part of the force driving the platform's long-term success by contributing a small, regular donation, starting from as little as £2.50 a month. Breathworks will continue to fund 50% of the yearly running costs. We need your help to go the full way.

Becoming a Community Patron is more than just a financial contribution; it’s the opportunity to join the dedicated group of people enabling over 6,000 members worldwide to access mindfulness on demand.

Many members live with extremely challenging physical or mental health, and describe our Community of Practice as a “lifeline”. Patrons volunteer to support the running costs of this platform, not only to ensure the resource they value thrives, but because they want to extend these benefits to those less fortunate. Patrons will have experienced the transformative impact of mindfulness, and share Breathworks’ vision of ensuring everyone has an equal opportunity to access these life skills.

What does the Community of Practice mean to members? Here's what your support is enabling...

In recognition of your support, you will receive:
  • 3 exclusive meditations, guided by Vidyamala Burch OBE (Breathworks’ Founder) upon signing up
  • A quarterly insight from Vidyamala with accompanying meditations, emailed directly to your inbox
  • Heartwarming stories and reminders of what you have helped make possible
  • A shoutout in our monthly free event guide email

We understand that we’re not the only ones conscious of finances. That’s why we offer a sliding donation scale and invite Patrons to choose an amount that feels affordable for them. It’s not about who can donate the most - it’s about working together to meet a shared goal.

£10 per month

We will meet our annual target if 125 Patrons choose this amount. If you regularly enjoy the Community of Practice, you can think of this as a personal investment comparable to streaming services like Netflix & Spotify.

£5 per month

For Patrons on a tighter budget who still want to make a big impact. Less than a cinema ticket, yoga class, or pint of beer.

£2.50 per month

For Patrons with limited disposable income who still want to be part of the shared mission.

On the donation form please select 'The Community of Practice' when asked 'What do you want your donation to go towards?' (as you will not be registered as a Community Patron otherwise).

Concerned about committing?
Life can throw us some curveballs, and we know how quickly things can change. You can adjust or pause your monthly donation at any time, with absolutely no judgement.
