🙋‍♀ Suitable For: All experience levels, including those new to mindfulness

Overview

In this gentle workshop, Breathworks Associate Teacher and accredited psychotherapist Julia Lofts offers a warm, unhurried space to be with loneliness: not to fix it, but to meet it with more kindness. Drawing openly on her own experience, Julia explores the difference between being alone and feeling alone, the stories we tell ourselves when we feel disconnected, and the quiet ways connection can be found within and around us.

What You'll Gain

  • A Compassionate Companion practice: a guided meditation imagining a kind, wise presence sitting beside you, offering the words you may most need to hear.

  • A loving-kindness practice: extending simple well-wishing to yourself, to someone you love, to someone neutral, and finally to the countless others who feel as you do, held in the phrase "just like me."

  • A clearer sense of solitude versus loneliness: why we can feel deeply alone in a room full of people, and why time by ourselves can feel nourishing rather than empty.

  • Insight into the stories loneliness tells: how the mind's negativity bias and old narratives shape the way we experience being alone.

  • A gentle way of tracing loneliness to its roots: a reflection on where the feeling first took hold, met with curiosity rather than judgement.

  • The reassurance of common humanity: the felt sense that this ache is shared, and that we are not alone in feeling alone.

  • Practical ways to ask for and offer connection: including the simple reminder that if we don't ask, we often don't get, and that connection can begin with us.

Is This Event For Me?

This workshop is open to everyone, including those new to mindfulness.

It may speak to you if loneliness or isolation is something you carry: whether through ill health, a change of chapter in life, physical distance from the people you love, or that particular ache of feeling unseen even when others are near.

Mindfulness teachers may also find elements useful for CPD, particularly the Compassionate Companion meditation and the way Julia weaves personal disclosure, image-based reflection and loving-kindness into a session on a tender subject.
