💻 Format: 2-hour Online event
🙋‍♀ Suitable For: All experience levels, including those new to mindfulness

Overview

Professor Mark Williams, co-developer of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, joins Breathworks founder Vidyamala Burch to explore vedana: the feeling tone of pleasant, unpleasant or neutral that colours every experience, and shapes how we react to it. Includes two guided practices and a live Q&A.

What You'll Gain

  • A model for understanding vedana: the felt experience of an event - rather than complex emotions - drawn from Buddhist teaching and cognitive science, and offered as a way of understanding our automatic reactions rather than another thing to control.

  • Two guided practices exploring vedana: the first grounding you in noticing feeling tone as it arises in the body, the second building on this with the phrases like "it's ok not to like it" and "it's ok to like it", to soften the usual push and pull towards experience.

  • How feeling tone shows up across physical, mental and emotional experience, and why noticing it matters for wellbeing.

  • "No action needed right now": a phrase offered as a way of meeting anxious or painful sensations without rushing to fix or solve them.

  • A live Q&A with Mark and Vidyamala, taking questions from participants on the evening.

Is This Event For Me?

This workshop is open to everyone, including those new to mindfulness.

Mindfulness teachers may also find elements of this session useful for CPD, particularly Mark's input on vedana in Buddhist and cognitive science terms, and the guided practice on allowing feeling tone rather than reacting to it.
