If you are an MBSR or MBCT Teacher this intensive online course will provide you with a framework for helping people with chronic pain and/or long-term health conditions to live well and flourish.

The course will be held via live weekly online learning sessions, with resources for you to work through in your own time, and online forums to discuss the content with the training team and fellow participants.

To participate in this online MBSR/MBCT teacher training event you will simply need access to the internet via a computer, smartphone or tablet.

Content:

You will be introduced to the methods originally devised by Breathworks co-founder Vidyamala Burch and most recently published in her award-winning book Mindfulness for Health.

Over the four weeks of the online course you will learn:

  • How to support people with LTCs to accept their primary experience of pain and reduce their secondary experience of the mental and emotional stress associated with physical pain

  • The Breathworks practice of Mindfulness in Daily Life: a pacing method that helps people to avoid flare-ups of pain or other condition

  • Breathworks meditation practices specifically suited for people with LTCs

  • Breathworks’ System of Mindful Movement
  • Guidance on how to teach meditation specifically for people with pain or illness

  • Using the breath to help soften reactions to pain, and to reduce the tension and stress that often accompanies it

In addition to:

  • Breathworks trainers' unique experience of working with this client group

  • Qualitative and quantitative data on the benefits of Breathworks programme

This Course is Suitable for:

People who have completed their training in MBSR or MBCT (e.g. at least level 2 training at Bangor University), and have taught at least three MBSR or MBCT courses.

Good Practice Guidelines:

Our training organisation is a participating member of BAMBA (British Association for Mindfulness Based Approaches). Our trainers adhere to the Good Practice Guidelines for Trainers and we encourage the teachers we train to adhere to the Good Practice Guidelines for Teachers.

What’s involved:

Our online MBSR/MBCT teachers’ course runs over 4 weeks. During that time, you’ll:

  • Take part in a live online workshop session each week

  • Engage with approximately 4-5 hours per week of self-study (reflective exercises, meditations, training videos and forum discussions) in your own time

  • Each week the live online workshop session will be delivered by Vidyamala and another experienced Breathworks trainer using easy-to-use webinar software.

All the content of the online course will be available on our virtual learning platform, so, you can access the following at any time, from any time zone:

  • Recordings of the live learning sessions

  • Guidance for that week’s self-study activities and practices

  • Additional learning resources and links

  • Group discussion forums where you will share reflections and questions with your trainers and fellow course participants between the live sessions

  • A learning community of fellow teachers from around the UK and the world

You’ll also have unlimited access to the study materials after your online event has ended - you can revisit the course content and exercises as often as you want.

In the week before your MBSR/MBCT online course begins, we’ll provide you with some orientation information, including guidance on how to use our simple e-learning platform, an online ice-breaker activity and a guided meditation practice – to help you feel fully ready to start your online course right from the start of Week 1.

Live in a timezone that doesn't fit with our live online workshop session times?

Mindfulness Map - Workplace AssociatesDon't worry, you can still fully participate in this course even if you live in a time zone that doesn't fit with our live online workshop session times. Rather than get up in the middle of the night for the live sessions, you can do our Global Timezone option. This involves watching the recordings of the live sessions and having a one hour one-to-one personal session with a member of our training team to reflect on your learning during each week of the course. You and the trainer assigned to you will arrange four 1-hour one-to-one sessions to take place weekly at mutually convenient times via Zoom/Skype/phone. Please note that you will still need to watch all the recordings of the weekly live sessions, as well as making posts in the course forums. So your overall personal learning time each week on this option will be:

  • 5-6 hours personal study
  • 2 hours watching recordings of live sessions
  • 1 hour one-to-one with trainer

The Global Timezone online fee is an additional £300 on top of the usual online MBSR/MBCT teachers’ course fee.

On completion:

An attendance certificate will be given at the end of the course.

If you want to apply to our teacher training programme, completing this course allows you to skip Stage 1 of the programme and become an accredited Breathworks teacher by completing only Stage 2.

Testimonials

"I would like to thank you for the excellent MBCT/MBSR Pathways course I attended as the start of my teacher training with Breathworks, it is the first training that I have found that allows me to use many of my skills. Your whole program makes me feel that the participants attending the course will really benefit enormously. Not only are they getting the basis of the MBSR programme but they are also getting a huge amount of practical assistance and explanations on how to assist themselves and ultimately learn to have a different relationship with their pain."

—Thea, Psychologist, Switzerland

"I just wanted to take a moment to express how amazing this training retreat turned out to be for me. I know you saw the transformation I experienced on a surface level in terms of my expression of pain (fibromyalgia) and I can attest the internal transformation was even more meaningful and life-affirming. Thank you both for creating a space that was so loving and safe to allow for this level of vulnerability. I am really excited about continuing my education and practice of the Breathworks teachings both on a personal level and as part of my ongoing professional practice. I honestly cannot wait to attend the next level of training... I really believe this model can help so many people and needs to be out there in the community!"
