💻 Format: 3-hour Online workshop
🙋‍♀ Suitable For: Mindfulness Teachers, Facilitators and Trainees

Overview

Join Tim Duerden, an experienced mindfulness teacher trainer and therapist, for a workshop on adapting your teaching to be trauma-sensitive. The session moves between theory, practice and practical frameworks, looking at how the ways we usually teach can overwhelm or disengage people with a history of trauma, and what we can do differently.

What You'll Gain

  • A working model for trauma and learning: the window of tolerance, and why choice, scaffolding and chunking matter when you're teaching people who may become triggered.

  • A key capacity framework: a way of thinking about trauma-responsive delivery that you can apply to body-focused practice and carry into your own sessions.

  • Practical adaptations: how to adjust breath and movement-based practices for greater accessibility, rather than dropping them altogether.

  • Sensitivity to language: how verbal framing lands differently for different people, and small changes that make practices safer.

  • Knowing the boundaries: how to recognise when someone may not be right for a course, and where the edges of safe practice sit.

  • Steadying practices: methods for helping participants find stability when they need it.

  • Course materials to keep: a set of resources for structuring existing sessions or courses in a trauma-sensitive way.

Is This Event For Me?

This session was created with mindfulness teachers, facilitators and trainees in mind.

If you've ever noticed that a practice which works well for most of a group lands very differently for one or two people, this session speaks directly to that. It offers a way of understanding why, and practical things to do about it.

Mindfulness teachers will find this useful as CPD, particularly the window of tolerance model and the key capacity framework for trauma-responsive delivery.
